ALTRA ZERODROP RUNNING SHOES

Altra are founded by Golden Harper and Brian Beckstead, two high school friends with a passion for running. They'repioneer’s of ‘ZeroDrop’ running shoes. ZeroDrop refers to the height differential between the heel and toe area of a shoe. Traditionally the heel is raised - however that's not the case with ZeroDrop shoes.

Co-founder Brian Beckstead tampered with running shoes in his parents house, trying to improve upon models he had purchased. One such experiment included using a toaster to heat up a shoe and then cut out the midsole. After lending out the creation to runners in their area, and receiving rave reviews, they knew they were onto something.

The moment which changed everything was when Brian decided to run the Wasatch 100 miler in his first trail shoe prototype. Once he hit mile 94 with 0 blisters and hours ahead of his time fom the previous year, Brian burst into tears – knowing ‘Altra’ was going to succeed. Which was a relief for his father whom had re-mortgaged his house to fund Brian’s vision!

In the years that followed Altra has gone onto win numerous awards for their concept and designs, including models such as the Escalante.
